October on the Farm

The farm is so beautiful these days. Enjoy this shot taken by beloved farm volunteer Shaina, before this week’s pumpkin patch event. Since October has hit, we are greeted by rolling fog every morning. The sky is moody and careful to reveal too much of itself to us, and everything is oranges, purples and browns!

I hope you will come out to the farm to pick up your Cinderella pumpkins (pictured above) next week, on Thursday (10/23/14) from 3:30- 6:00pm! These gigantic pumpkins belong in front of your home!

Farmer Erynn will be on-site and would love to share the beauty of the farm with you.

October is officially “National Farm to School” Month, which “…was designated by Congress in 2010 to demonstrate the growing importance of farm to school programs as a means to improve child nutrition, support local economies and educate children about the origins of food”. (Source, National Farm to School Month website) Not only is Join the Farm! featured in a super cool video from the Ventura Unified School District’s Food and Nutrition Services Facebook page, we are all participating in an event called The Crunch Heard ‘Round the Country! Make sure to take a picture of yourself crunching a sweet, delicious carrot and post it to our Facebook page, or the Conejo Valley Unified School District Facebook page on October 24th at 11:15 am to show your support for healthy, local food and the farms that grow these veggies!
