The Real Meal (a workshop lead by priest Julie Morris) – Food is “in” right now.  (Was it ever out?)  We read books, watch movies and talk about food systems, food justice, local food, organic food, food for the poor, sustainable food, foodies,  slow food, raw food, farmers’ markets, farm to table, farm to school, victory gardens, community gardens….and so much more.     In this workshop we will explore some of the many current food discussions in relationship to scripture, spirituality and social justice.  We will look at how Jesus’ own ministry and the centrality of the Eucharist in our Christian faith can transform all of our meals into “real meals” where we are deeply connected to God, the earth and one another.  We will learn about different ways churches and other faith- based groups (especially the youth and young adults in them!) are rediscovering the sacramentality of food and the joy of connecting to the land.  The presenter is the mother of three school-age children, so the content of this workshop is sifted through a “reality meter.”  We will take a look at complex issues and find small steps to take.  Our time together will be about planting seeds that will sprout in our own families, ministries, parishes and communities in creative and nourishing ways.
