Dear Friends of The Abundant Table Community –
This is an exciting time for The Abundant Table and our farm program, Join the Farm! After several growing seasons at the Hansen Agricultural Research and Education Center in Santa Paula, we have completed our move to McGrath Family Farms in Camarillo with the goal of expanding our acreage and education programs. Sunday, October 25th from 2-5:30pm we will celebrate this new partnership with an Autumn Harvest Party and Blessing of the Land. In addition, we will also recognize a transition in our leadership.
I am delighted to announce that The Abundant Table has called The Rev. Nicole Janelle as its new Executive Director. Nicole is an Episcopal priest who brings to our team strong organizational and leadership skills along with experience in ministry and social justice work. She comes to The Abundant Table following nearly nine years as vicar and chaplain of St. Michael’s University Church in Isla Vista, CA, where her work focused on young adult spiritual development, food access initiatives for university students and other social justice issues within the community. Previously, Nicole served the congregation of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Los Angeles, where she led congregants in building an onsite community garden and developed exercise, nutrition and spiritual formation programs for the Spanish-speaking community. Needless to say, we are excited about the ways we will both sustain and serve our community in the coming years under Nicole’s guidance. As many of you will come to know, her presence is a joy and a gift among us.
This is also an appropriate moment to express our deep gratitude for the role outgoing Interim Executive Director Amy Grossman has played over the last couple years. It is difficult to know where to begin celebrating Amy’s contributions to The Abundant Table. She provided astonishingly efficient and expert leadership in streamlining our administrative processes; she shepherded a genuinely collaborative, multilingual team atmosphere among Abundant Table staff and board members; she identified and successfully applied for many new grant opportunities, including a recent USDA award to support our CSA and numerous Foundation grants to support our farm-to-school an drouth development programs. Amy has now begun studies in nurse-midwifery. We are fortunate, however, that Amy will continue to be a part of The Abundant Table support team, serving as a development consultant on an as-needed basis.
Finally, thank YOU for your continued support of The Abundant Table!
Dr. Sam Thomas
President, Board of Directors,
The Abundant Table
